Easy operations, here, you guys. I have read the piece of fiction known as Cupcakes by one-time MLP author, Sgt. Sparkles and I have to say, it rocked. That being, of inanition, chortles, chortles, chortles and chortles. It is the story about Rainbow Dash being invited over to Sugar Cube Corner for fun, but instead of that. We have Pinkie drugging her down, dragging her down into her basement and doing things to poor ol’ Rainbow. You know, dismembering her, slowly driving her toward a stupendously racking death.

Disclaimer: The views and grammatical prowess expressed within does not necessarily represent CW's of today.

From point one, the narrative is a little bit somewhat tasteless and dull. Linguistics, linguistics, a little more of a strained effort should actually, perhaps, maybe be necessary for this story to work a little better. The dialogue runs smoothly and reflects corresponding character without any issue. But let’s dig a bit deeper into that, I actually read both the original, grammatically impaired version with the cheesy, although satisfyingly outlandish alternate ending and the more publically familiarized version without any typos or systematic errors to gaggle on about. That alternative ending was very understandably left out; it would have pushed the story over the edge, from being humorously cheesy to being non-humorously frivolous. The only thing the revision of this story did was turning it from being a dolorous attempt at basic english sentence structuring to being mediocre, grammatically.

This story is exactly what you’d expect it to be. Think, Pinkie slowly dismembering Rainbow Dash, torturing her to death, and there, you have your story. It does no more than what it has to do in order to establish itself before getting right to business. At that, the story is said to be describing this process in “intense detail”. In detail? I won‘t object. Intensely? The story has managed build itself on linguistic clichés and frequent repetition of the same locution making it more or less hobble forward in its attempts at imperceptible phraseology.

I was however forced to enjoy its premise which has given me da chortles on more than one occasion. I should say, this is too the reason why I may consider this story only a tad bit confused. Throughout, the story persists in holding its harsh and grim tone to little more of an extent than might be necessary. Pinkie’s upward attitude may have very well been there in order to create more of a horror-comedy aspect but as far as I perceive it, it ends up doing nothing but to intensify this shaky tone. It’s a story about a pastel-coloured pony turning another pastel-coloured pony into cupcakes, is it not? Then why isn’t this a horror-comedy, a horredy.

Heh, make no mistake, Cupcakes deserve its share of praise for what it has done for this fandom. The influence it has had in making people realise the surprising potential My Little Pony holds in the grimdark genre is commendable.

So…Cupcakes is a haphazardly cluttered story about Pinkie Pie slowly dismembering Rainbow Dash for the purpose of turning her into a batch of cupcakes. I don’t believe Cupcakes to be the most “evil” fanfic, approaching it by many peoples’ perception of the word. I do however think it should be respected for the mark it has placed in MLP fiction history. Really, the cupcake fanon seems to exist in a little world of its own. There are prequels, sequels, parodies, goodie-goodie alternate versions putting happy endings to the infamous story, (e.g. it was just a nightmare) for the sole purpose of corroborating it to oneself that none of this really happened, it was all out-of-fanon. And unlike My Little Dashie to which the subject of an entirely own fanon and the influence it has come to inflict appears preposterous at first glance, I consider this eligible. I see Cupcakes as one major source of inspiration putting ground for the fandom challenging itself while oppositely, My Little Dashie seems more like one prodigiously large boil infecting its fans, turning them into its slaves resulting in them coughing up bad spin-off story after bad spin-off story as well as making them put an end to each and every person who doesn’t like it in its honour.

Unless you’re one of those folks who are really sensitive about Pinkie acting out of canon or simply can’t take seeing Rainbow Dash in for a hurt, read it. I can not guarantee that you’ll enjoy it, psh, most people probably wouldn’t; very understandable at that. But just for the lift the fiction community has taken over the course of time because of it, just for how iconic the premise of this fanfic has managed to make itself, it’s FiM-based fiction archaeology. Too, if you’re new to all that grimdark stuff, this will probably stand as a good starting point.
